There are only three possible materials : stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. Stoneware has a more rustic and authentic appearance : it is the most resistant ceramic of the three. The whitest and most transparent ceramic is porcelain. It is the reference in terms of tableware. It is also waterproof and resistant to mechanical or thermal shocks. If your earthenware is damaged, the damaged part will tend to blacken.
How to choose the material of your plates ?

As with all things decorating, the first thing to consider is taste. If you like tableware, you will always find a way to use them, whatever their material ! The second element is the use you will have of them : how often will you use them, on a daily basis or for occasions ?
